Exophora and endophora

Endophora is an expression that refers to something in the same text. Example:

I saw Alice on the weekend. She was in the market.

Here "she" is an endophora since it refers to something mentioned in the text, namely, "Alice" here.

She was in the market.

When this sentence is used on it's own, for example, when a discourse starts with it, then it represents an exophora since "she" can't refer to anything explained in the text. We can't determine to whom "she" refers and have to rely on general knowledge or on context (like someone we are familiar with or someone to whom the speaker is pointing at). Thus exophora relies on information not contained in the text.
