loi

{loi} arose in Lojban as a replacement for Loglan {lo}, which was most often some combination (as we have now sorted them out or at least discussed them) of collective group, Kind, Substance, and perhaps other things ("Myopic Particular"?). The fuzziness carried over to Lojban but has been more thoroughly developed here, into at least the notions mentioned just above. Assuming that Kind has now been dealt with in the notion of Mr. and that Substance is, therefore, pretty much taken care of as well, we could now take {loi} simply for collective groups. However, in the earlier discussions of {loi} -- and of collective groups as then understood, it was held that a property of any member of the group was also a property of the collective group itself. But this rule has now become a fundamental one for Mr. and so no longer needs {loi} for this purpose. {loi} could then be confined to having only the properties which require the concommitance of several members of the group, making it a much simpler and more coherent concept.
