Hermeneutics is the theory of text interpretation, especially philosophical and religious texts and wisdom literature. The terms "hermeneutics" and "exegesis" are sometimes used interchangeably. Hermeneutics is a wider discipline that includes written, verbal, and nonverbal communication. Exegesis focuses primarily upon texts.
